If you think your kids might be spending too much time in front of a screen, then you are absolutely right.
Our daily lives have become digital. We work on computers, keep our phones on us all the time and come home to relax in front of the TV. Even our cars and our coffee machines are digital. It’s important to your child’s health, development and relationship with you (and ultimately to other people in the outside world) that you spend time with them doing non-tech, screen-free activities.
But what can you do with your kid that is screen-free? Parents often find it challenging to think of interesting non-tech activities with their kids. So we are here to help!
Yes! Dance class is a type of adventure learning!
From a psychological perspective, dance class helps develop a “can do” attitude that can be applied to all aspects of life. Dance can instill a sense of determination which gives children the confidence to face challenges, express and deal with emotions, and desire to succeed. Adventurous dance activities such as stage performances and community events help students to overcome fear, anxiety and physical stress.
Quite often, this means putting children outside of their comfort zones and exposing them to scenarios they are not used to. Performances on stage and in the community may be situations the children perceive as too difficult or too challenging, but are all part of the adventure, teaching them about the risks and rewards of mastering something new.
